Sarah Crystal: “Always dream and believe in yourself”

Sarah Crystal is entering the Maltese Eurovision selection for the very first time, as her song “Right Here With You” which she co-wrote with Toby Farrugia and Pamela Bezzina made it to the top 20.

We wanted to get to know Sarah Crystal a little bit better, so we asked her about her song, her team, and her career. Check out everything she told us in this interview right here:

First of all I would like to congratulate you for making it to the top 20! How do you feel about being in the semi finals of Malta’s selection?

I am thrilled to be one of the 20 finalists. It is my first as a contestant and it has always been one of my all-time desires.

How did you decide to enter this Contest this year?

I did not submit any songs in previous years because I was never ready and trained the way I am this year. Participating in the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of the Maltese people has always been my unsurpassed dream.

Can you tell us more about the story behind your song, and the team who worked on it?

I was inspired to write these lyrics while I was watching the sun set on the golden sands of one of Malta’s beautiful beaches. I shared these lyrics with my vocal coach Pamela Bezzina and with my all-time favourite Maltese Dj Toby Farrugia and together we worked and built the song I’m participating with…. ‘Right Here With You’.

How are you getting ready for the national final? Did your ideas for the stage performance all come together, and how is everything going to look like?

Vocal coaching is routine. Various and daily meetings have become the norm since being selected for the finals. One now hopes that everything will be perfectly fine on the night. There is a lot more to be done until the final product is complete but so far it is looking great.

Sarah Crystal 2Who do you think is your biggest competition to win the Maltese national final?

I have not heard all the songs yet so I cannot really tell.

What would representing Malta in Eurovision mean to you?

Fulfilling one of my biggest dreams.

What would be your all time favorite Eurovision song?

That would be “Euphoria” by Loreen

What sort of music do you listen to in your free time, when all you want is to relax?

Commercial music that I can sing and dance to. Those upbeat pop songs that offer some good vibes.

What do you do when you are not singing?

I carry on with my life; work, filming in a Maltese television series and watching foreign series such as Once Upon a Time, Vampire Diaries, Arrow, The Flash ect… I spend as much quality time as possible with my family, friends and boyfriend. I enjoy travelling and life’s precious little moments.

Are you engaged in any other projects at the moment?

For the past four years I have been taking part in a Maltese television series written and directed by Eileen Montesin.

Do you have a message for all the readers of ESCBubble who will support you in Malta’s national final?

Always dream and believe in yourself. Unfortunately life is a bumpy road with a lot of highs and lows. Enjoy and appreciate every little moment as if it were your last. Try and live life to the full. Do not let fear abolish your dreams. If you really want it, then do anything possible to achieve it. I know that words are easier said than done, because I too struggle to keep up with them sometimes, but nothing comes easy in life.
