Omar Naber: I wrote “On My Way” 10 years ago, when I felt completely lost

Omar Naber is no stranger to Eurovision, as he represented Slovenia back in 2005 when the Contest was also held in Kiev, with the song “Stop”. He is back again this year in EMA, where he is one of the eight finalists with his song “On My Way”.

We spoke to Omar ahead of tonight’s final, and we asked him about his song, his memories from Kiev, and also his expectations tonight. Check out everything he told us right here:

First of all Omar, how did you decide to come back to EMA this year?

I thought I had a song that would fit in, so I applied.

Can you give us an insight into the story/inspiration behind “On My Way”?

I wrote that song about 10 years ago, when I felt completely lost and alone, it just came out of me. I wrote it in 10 minutes. I always knew something special is waiting for this song.

If I’m not mistaken, in all your previous participations in EMA, the show was held in RTVSlo’s studio, and now it is at The Exhibition and Convention Centre. How different is the show in this venue for you?

Not much different. If different at all, it is for the better, as the lights and stage is bigger and better, much spacier venue. I like that. The atmosphere there is wonderful as well.

What are your expectations in the Final?

I have no expectation at all. All I have to do is give it my best shot. Let’s just hope for the best, let the gods do the rest 🙂

Why should you be the one to win EMA on Friday?

That is for people and the jury to decide 🙂

What memories does Eurovision in Kiev bring back to you?

Oh, those memories are wonderful, it was a special honor to represent my country at the biggest music festival on the planet. It gave me an opportunnity to start my carreer on a high 🙂

What was your favorite thing about Kiev?

A real Slovan spirit, beautiful girls, and an unusual but delicious food.

What other projects are you currently working on?

I’m working on many songs at once, as I think it’s about time for me to be releasing a new album soon 🙂

Thanks Omar for your time for doing this interview, and the best of luck tonight!

Cheers!! Thank You so much for your support 🙂 Greets from Ljubljana, Omar 🙂
