Maria Grosu: “I think I will cry, laugh and then cry again!”
The second semi final of Selecția Națională 2018 takes place in Romania this weekend, where 12 acts will perform for 3 spots in the Grand Final. We got the chance to catch up with Maria Grosu who is competing with Endless (Florin Minzala) performing the song “Thinking About You”.

What made you want to enter the selection process?
What made you want to enter the selection process?
Hey, 🙂 thank you! Not what, but who made me! My colleague, Florin, invited me to sing with him this song and I said ok, challenge accepted!
You are entering as a duo with Endless, how did the collaboration with yourself and Florin come about?
I know Florin from a couple of years; we were colleagues at the same university. I am glad I accepted this collaboration, Florin is a great person, positive, very organised and ambitious, he is giving me a great vibe and I think that is an important thing for making a collaboration work.
Can you tell us a bit more about your song “Thinking About You” and the team behind it?
Will Taylor and Jonas Gladnikoff made the song and we thank you a lot, guys! 🙂
You’re an experienced artist both performing with SteelBorn and on your own in TV shows like X Factor, do you feel this will help you on a big stage like Eurovision?
How sweet, you remembered me about the X Factor; it was a long time ago, in 2014. Great experience! And I think it was the one that helped me evolving the most! Also the concerts with Steelborn helped me evolving in the interactions with the public.
Do you still get nervous before a big performance?
It is normal to be nervous before a big performance, but the key is to learn how to use that feeling in a way that helps you!
How would it feel to win and be selected for Romania and go to the Eurovision song contest?
Omg. I think I will cry, laugh and then cry again!
And how are the rehearsals for Selecția Națională going?
Great! Looking forward for the Semifinals!
Can you tell us anything about how the song will be staged for the contest?
We are preparing a great show! I cannot tell you, it is a surprise!
Have you had the chance to listen to any of the other entries yet, any standouts?
Yes, of course, I already have my favorites! 🙂
Who are your biggest inspirations musically?
I am a big fan of Liza Minnelli 🙂

Do you currently have any other projects going on at the moment that we can look forward to?
Yes, Steelborn is now in the studio preparing the next album. Stay tuned!
What do you enjoy doing when not performing?
Acting is my second passion, actually I began studying it, next year I’ll be an actress with diploma 🙂
And finally do you have a favourite Eurovision song from previous years?
For sure, Conchita with the song “Rise like a Phoenix”!
