Ben Quinlan wants to represent Ireland at Eurovision

The former Irish X Factor hopeful – Ben Quinlan – has revealed that he has entered a song for the competition to represent Ireland in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The 19-year-old singer who hails from Killarney, is best known for giving a green rose to Cheryl before he performed Shayne Ward’s song “That’s My Goal”.

Ben failed to get through bootcamp to secure a place amongst Mel B’s boys as she wasn’t impressed by his performance and told him to leave the stage. Now, he revealed that he has penned a track for which he thinks will take him to Vienna. He said: “It’s very new, very fresh, it’s an Irish pop song with a twist.”

He further said that he had planned to perform the song at X Factor before Scary Spice ranted at him and brutally axed him during a live show. He also added: “If I had actually performed it at X Factor I would not have been able to enter it into Eurovision.”

This year, Ireland was disappointed when Kasey Smith didn’t even reach the finals, whilst the year before Ryan Dolan finished last, receiving only five points from three different countries.

Former X Factor contestant Mary Byrne also said that she is putting herself forward to represent Ireland, whilst Jedward have already said that they want to participate at Eurovision for a third time.
