Adrian Jørgensen: ‘I really liked the Eurovision circus’

The Norwegian national selection, Melodi Grand Prix 2019, takes place this Saturday at the Oslo Spektrum with 10 acts taking part this year.

One of the acts participating is 26 year old Adrian Jørgensen with his rather excellent named song ‘The Bubble’. We had a chat about his previous Eurovision experience as a backing singer and how the song came into being:

Hi Adrian, congratulations on making the final 10 at Melodi Grand Prix this year.  Was it always your intention to send a song this year?  And how did the opportunity come about?

The song was written at the Oslo Songwriting Camp. Aleksander Walmann thought the song would be an appropriate song for me to sing at Melodi Grand Prix. We submitted the song and were really happy when we got to be one of the final 10.

So you have a lot of great songwriters on ‘The Bubble’ with Jonas McDonnell, Aleksander Wahlmann and Kjetil Mørland. How did you manage to luck out and get such great Eurovision experience on board with the song?

Me and Aleksander have been good friends since we met on the Norwegian tv-show “The Voice” in 2013. I got to know Mørland and McDonnell when I participated as a backing vocalist in Kiev in 2017. They are great songwriters and I really appreciate that they wanted me to perform the song.

Have you spoken with Morland about his own song in comparison to yours and his feelings if you were to beat him?

No, we haven’t talked about it.

Is it correct you’ve already been to Eurovision before as a backing vocalist on Grab The Moment? Did that experience help you decide in any way that you wanted to go back to Eurovision and do it again?

That is correct. I really liked the “Eurovision-circus” and it was a great experience for me and of course I wanted to do it again. This time it is with my own song, and I am really looking forward to the final on Saturday. I also was a backing-vocalist last year on Aleksander’s song “Talk To The Hand”.

I’m going to put you on the spot and ask you a question on your fellow songwriters.  Which Norwegian entry did you prefer – ‘A Monster Like Me’ or ‘Grab The Moment’?

I’ll choose “Grab The Moment” because I got to join Aleksander singing it.

What have you got lined up music wise after MGP?  Will we have some new music from you?

Definitely!

Finally, I had to ask this – we couldn’t help notice your song’s name is very similar to our websites! 🙂  So welcome as a member to ‘Team Bubble’, could you send a message to your new fans reading ESCBubble discovering your music for the first time?

“Hello everybody! It’s bubble-time! Thanks to everyone who listens to my music and follows me and my career! I really appreciate it.

Good luck Adrian for Melodi Grand Prix!  ESCBubble will be in Oslo that night so hope to see you there.

Thanks! I hope I’ll see you there.
