This Saturday we get to know who’ll wave the Danish flag in Eurovision 2022, when Denmark’s Melodi Grand Prix takes place. One of the competing acts is a duo formed by Josie Elinor and Jack Warren, who are entering their home country’s national selection with their beautiful song Let Me Go. Even though the duo is surely very busy at the moment getting ready for Saturday’s show, they still had time to answer a few questions we asked from them. This is what Josie and Jack told us about their relationship to Eurovision, their Melodi Grand Prix entry Let Me Go, their musical backgrounds and some other things as well:

Hello Josie and Jack and thank you for giving me this interview! At first I’d like to ask what is your relationship to Eurovision? Do you usually watch the contest and what are your favorite Eurovision songs?

We both really love Eurovision. Especially Josie has kept up with the show almost every year. One of her favorites go all the way back to Johnny Logan “What’s another year” from 1980. Jack loves the Danish act “Brødrende Olsen” with “Fly on the wings of love”. We both really love “Euphoria” by Loreen.

Could you tell us something about your musical background? How long have you been singing and do you play any instruments?

Josie: I’ve been singing since I was able to talk, and have since then learned to play the guitar followed by a bit piano. I come from a family that is very musically inclined, which is why music has always been a big part of my upbringing.

Jack: I started out learning to play the guitar when I was 14, by playing covers from Youtube. Since then I started singing as well – when I was about 18. My family isn’t really musically inclined. Besides the guitar, I play piano and drums.

How was your MGP song ”Let Me Go” born and how would you describe the message of it?

It was written by some great songwriters from the Danish Songwriting Academy. The message of the song is that sometimes, if you really love somebody, the best thing to do is to let them go.

What kind of stage show can we expect from you in MGP?

Unfortunately we aren’t able to say much about the staging. However, we can say that it’ll be different in its own way and hopefully entertaining to watch.

What do you think is the greatest achievement in your career so far?

We both agree that entering the “Melodi Grand Prix” is the greatest achievement of our career.

Was it clear to you from the very beginning that you’d sing your MGP entry in English and do you think the language of the competing song has some impact on the song’s success in Eurovision?

We always knew that we would sing the song in English, since that was the original
written language for the song. Usually the use of the English language in songs are proven to be more successful for Eurovision, but if you look at Måneskin last year there’s clearly room for songs to be from your own language.

Besides your own song, what’s your favorite song in this year’s MGP?

We really love all of the songs and have been listening to them a lot. We do however really like the energy from “Rave med de hårde drenge”, since this is very different. We also love the rock/punk vibes from “REDDI” and the great gospel singers from “Confessions”.

What do you do when you don’t do music?

Josie: I’m studying Biologi at the university.
Jack: I’m a carpenter.

What would it mean to you to win MGP and represent Denmark in Eurovision 2022?

It would be an honor to compete against the different countries and represent Denmark.
