Two Semi Finals and a Final in this year’s Festival da Cancao!

The Portuguese national broadcaster RTP has announced more details regarding this year’s Festival da Cancao, the Portuguese national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. A total of 12 songs will be taking part in this festival this year in two semi finals, where the best six will qualify for the Grand Final.

The 12 songs are going to be composed by the 12 invited composers, and they will be divided into two semi finals. The two most voted songs by televoting in each semi final will qualify directly for the final, while the third qualifiers in every semi are going to be selected by the jury.

The Grand Final will take place in two phases: in the first round, the two most voted songs in televoting, and one selected by the jury will qualify for the “Super Final”. These three songs will then go to the final televoting round in order to select the winner, and the Portuguese entry in Vienna. The juries will have no input at all in the Super Final.

Suzy won last year’s Festival da Cancao, with “Quero ser tua”, and she finished 11th in her semi final in Copenhagen, just missing out on qualifying for the Final.
