Salvador Sobral announces musical break!

It has been no secret that Portuguese Eurovision winner Salvador Sobral hasn’t had it easy when it comes to his personal health. Before and during the contest in Kyiv, Ukraine it even led to his sister, Luísa Sobral who had also written Amar pelos dois, covering quite some rehearsals for him, an exception granted by the EBU in the light of Salvador’s health problems.

Yesterday, Salvador announced that he would go on a professional hiatus. This news is coming after him cancelling three concerts on doctor’s orders and this hiatus means he won’t do anything related to music professionally so that he can rest and work on his recovery.

Salvador has uploaded a video on YouTube, titled Hello, Até já (Hello, see you soon) explaining that he is going to take a musical break  He explains that now it really is time for him to let go of the music for a while and let science work on him in hopes of fully recovering, which he’s sure he will. He is quick to add that the ‘goodbye’ is only temporary and hopes the press can give him space to breathe while he’s away. Salvador ends the video by singing the famous Beatles hit ‘Hello, Goodbye’:

Before retreating however, he will give one last concert which can be attended for free! It will be this Friday at the Cascais International Fair, hosted in the gardens of Casino Estoril.

We wish Salvador lots of rest and good health!
