126 songs entered for Romania’s Selectia Nationala!

The submission period for the 2019 edition of Romania’s Eurovision selection – Selectia Nationala has ended, and TVR has informed ESCBubble that they have received a total of 126 songs for next year’s Contest. This is almost 70% more than for the 2018 edition.

According to TVR, lots of well known artists, including various artists who previously represented Romania in Eurovision, as well as unknown artists have entered their songs for the 2019 Selectia Nationala. For the first time ever, the song submission was done online.

TVR has formed a preselection jury which is going to listen to the 126 submitted songs, and select up to 24 which will proceed to the semi finals of Selectia Nationala. The qualifiers will be announced by 20th of December. The two semi finals will take place in two different cities in Romania in January/February, whilst the Final of Selectia Nationala will take place in Bucharest in February – the exact date is yet to be confirmed.

Six songs from each of the two semi finals will qualify for the Grand Final – five of them will be chosen by a national jury, and the sixth qualifier will be chosen by televoting. In the Grand Final, the public vote will count 50%, whilst the other 50% of the result will be added by an international jury.

The Humans won the last edition of Selectia Nationala with “Goodbye”, and went on to represent Romania in Eurovision 2018 in Lisbon. They failed to qualify for the Grand Final, having finished 11th in their semi.
