Latvia’s Supernova Attracts 121 Submissions

The window for submissions for Latvia’s Supernova selection process has now closed, and LTV have confirmed that they have received a total of 121 entries hoping to be the next Latvian representative at Eurovision.

Agnese Strause-Kublina, LTV’s Editorial Director of Children’s Youth and Entertainment, said that ‘We feel pleased that the artists appreciate Supernova and want to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest.  This year’s record-high viewing figures for Supernova and Eurovision show prove that the public appreciate it and want to actively participate in selecting the winner’

She goes on to say:

The line-up of performers is magnificent.  Several performers from previous years will try to test their strength in an intense battle, and of course the audience will have the opportunity to get to know and appreciate new musicians as well.

The total of 121 is only slightly down on last year’s record-breaking total of 130, and the jury will now work together to find the very best submissions for the live shows.  The songs are expected to become available in January, with the live shows anticipated in February, although no dates have yet been confirmed.

Last year, Supernova was won by the group Citi Zeni, and they went on to represent Latvia in Turin with their song ‘Eat Your Salad’.  Unfortunately they failed to make it to the grand final, but you can relive their performance from the semi-final here:

With the hint of many returning artists, who would you like to see return to the competition for Latvia?, or are there any new or emerging artists whose names you would like to see in the list?  Let us know in the comments section below!
