Netflix Eurovision movie to be released on 26th of June!

Last night in the show with Graham Norton, Will Ferrell announced that movie will be released on Netflix from Friday 26th of June 2020 at 9:01 AM CEST.

The full name of the movie is “The Eurovision Song Contest: The Fire History Saga” and it is directed by David Dobkin (Wedding CrashersThe Judge) and stars Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams, Pierce Brosnan, Dan Stevens, Demi Lovato, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Game of Thrones), Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (The Borgias, Homecoming), Natasia Demetriou (What We Do in the Shadows), Nína Dögg Filippusdóttir (Fangar, Children, King’s Road), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, True Detective) and Julian Miller (Spy, Le Mans ’66) while Icelandic film score composer Atli Örvarsson is in charge of the original score.

The movie tells a story about two aspiring Icelandic musicians Lars Erickssong (Will Ferrell) and Sigrit Ericksdottir (Rachel McAdams) and the journey which they take for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to represent their country at the world’s biggest song competition – Eurovision. Will Ferrell co-wrote the screenplay with Andrew Steele (The Spoils of Babylon) and he is also producing it together with Chris Henchy (Daddy’s HomeThe Boss) and Jessica Elbaum (BooksmartHustlers). Adam McKay (The Big ShortTalladega Nights) is the executive producer. 

As we announced earlier, the first track from the original soundtrack of this movie was released by the name “Volcano Man” (The Volcano Man) and it is interpreted by Will Ferrell in duet with My Marianne while among the credited performers we could see Molly Sandén, Swedish representative at JESC 2006 and participant of Melodifestivalen 2009, 2012 and 2016.

Filming had started in Lisbon in May 2018, continued last May in Tel Aviv (sequences of footage with the public of Expo Tel Aviv), and is mainly made in the United Kingdom (in Edinburgh, Scotland) and Iceland.
