The 71st edition of the traditional Sanremo music festival is scheduled to take place once again in Ariston, from the 2nd until the 6th of March. The Artistic Director is once again going to be Amadeus, who announced in a recent interview that there is no plan B in organizing next year’s Sanremo – it’s either going to happen as planned, with a full audience, or the event is not going to be held then.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, lots of events have been postponed, or cancelled entirely, including the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest. National broadcasters from Europe are already planning how and when they are going to be having their national selections for Eurovision, and it is no different to RAI either, planning on their Sanremo music festival. This festival is traditionally held in San Remo, in the Ariston theatre. The Aristic Director of next year’s festival has stated the following:

There is no plan B for the Sanremo Festival, it must be done with total normality. Either it is done with the public, or nothing. An empty Ariston is unthinkable, or with the audience at a distance and then the orchestra, every two meters distance between everyone.

He continued:

The coronavirus leaves the TV the ability to adapt. Without the public we are making a TV that we never imagined doing, even in February when we did Sanremo in total normality.

Twenty days later I did The Usual Unknowns without an audience and with the distance between the competitors and the ‘Unknowns’. Now we can’t wait to get back to normal.

Everything keeps going according to the plan, and starting from today, meetings are being scheduled with record companies both for Sanremo, and Sanremo Giovanni, which will take place on the 17th of December. On the same day, all the participants of Sanremo 2021 are going to be revealed as well.
