North Macedonia’s first rehearsal at Junior Eurovision 2021

This morning’s session ends with the only full-on group of 2021’s Contest: Dajte Muzika, singing Green Forces for North Macedonia.

I’ll be honest, I expected heaset mics for this one, as the studio version, and the fact they are coming from a kids’ music TV show, gave us the impression this would have an S Club 8 sort of vibe. What we’ve got is actually far more mature than even the music video showed. You can tell why Dajte Muzika is so successful in its region.

The visuals are pretty much what you’d expect from a song about environmentalism: burning oceans, batteries running out of charge, words like “recycle” and “time” etc. Boys Filip and Miha are providing most of the vocals, while Anastasija and Kristina bring the party with their dance moves, kind of like a reverse of Steps (sorry H and Lee).

While we’ve seen a lot of “save the planet” songs at JESC of late, none have perhaps been as seemingly-upbeat and danceable as Green Forces, yet their monochrome outfits and brooding expressions do remind us of the serious subject matter without it feeling too preachy.

Since this is going 18th, and is the last uptempo song in the show, a bit of group cohesion will make this a very memorable one.
