Finland have chosen – it’s Aksel Kankaanranta for Rotterdam!

Tonight at Mediapolis in Tampere, Finland, the final of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) took place with six songs competing to become the Finnish representative at the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam in May.

After some fantastic performances and a thrilling voting sequence which saw international judges from Bulgaria, Estonia, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Russia and the United Kingdom give their votes alongside the public, Aksel Kankaanranta and his song “Looking Back” was chosen as the winner.

Erika Vikman’s “Cicciolina” was a fan favourite since release, and although she won the televote by 6 points, she couldn’t overhaul the lead that Aksel had gained following the jury votes.
