Toto Cutugno dies at the age of 80

Sad news coming from Italy today, as the winner of the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest, and the host of the 1991 Contest, Toto Cutugno, has died earlier today in Milan.

Toto Cutugno took part in the Sanremo music festival multiple times, and even though he won it in 1980 with the song “Solo noi”, the song he competed with back in 1983 – “L’Italiano” which became famous worldwide.

He was selected by RAI to represent Italy at the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest in Zagreb, and he won the Contest with “Insieme: 1992”. The following year he co-hosted the Contest along with the first Italian Eurovision winner, Gigliola Cinquetti.

Italian news portal ANSA spoke to Toto Cutugno’s Manager, Danilo Mancuso, who confirmed that Toto died earlier today in Milan after a long illness, “which had become more serious in the last few months”.
