Lithuania scraps Pabandom iš naujo! for a new show

Many years of Eurofans butchering the pronunciation of Lithuania’s Eurovision selection show Pabandom iš naujo! is coming to an end. From 2024, Lithuania will choose its entry with a new show, called Eurovizija.LT!

Broadcaster LRT has posted the rules for the new show on its website, but details of the show itself and the air dates remain unknown at this point. Songwriters and artists have until 11th December to submit a song, and until 31st December to withdraw if necessary.

The rules do state that LRT will provide up to a maximum of €1,500 (£1,300) to each artist for staging and production costs.

Lithuania will choose its entry for Malmö based on the usual Eurovision voting system across “four or five” Semi Finals and the Grand Final – 50% of the weight will come from a jury, with the other 50% coming from the Lithuanian public via SMS.

No word yet on how many artists will compete in each Semi, or how many will go to the Final from the Semis.

With the jury vote and televote combined, the artists with the most points will proceed to the Grand Final.

In the Grand Final, one last 50/50 vote will take place, where the top 3 artists with the most points will proceed to a ‘Superfinal’ where the televote alone will choose the winner of Eurovizija.LT.

Monika Linkytė was the final winner of Pabandom iš naujo! and got Lithuania to its third consecutive Grand Final at Eurovision 2023, where her catchy song Stay came 11th place with 127 points. The country debuted at Eurovision in 1994, and remains the only Baltic country never to have won the Contest.
