Meet Luxembourg’s national final jury

Things are moving along swiftly in Luxembourg! As the country makes its Eurovision return after 30 years, there has been great interest in the Grand Duchy’s comeback.

Almost 500 songs were submitted earlier this year for consideration for Malmö — that has now been slashed to 70 songs and 50 artists who remain in contention to represent Luxembourg at its first Eurovision Song Contest since 1993! We won’t have to wait much longer to find out who is still in the running, as broadcaster RTL will release the names in early December.

With 66 days to go until the Final of RTL’s Eurovision selection show on 27th January, the fate of those still in the running is now in the hands of an international jury, as they will further narrow down the list of artists and songs before the live show.

RTL has chosen a five-member jury with years of Eurovision experience between them:
  • Alexandros (Alex) Panayi: Represented Cyprus at Eurovision in 1995 (9th place) and 2000 (21st place), and has returned several times as a backing singer and vocal coach.
  • Cesár Sampson: Represented Austria at Eurovision in 2018 (3rd place), winning the jury vote. Cesár will also host the Green Room of this year’s ESCZ.
  • Christer Björkmann: Represented Sweden at Eurovision 1992 (22nd place), produced Melodifestivalen for 20 years (2002-2022), produced Eurovision in 2013 and 2016, and will be a producer again in 2024.
  • Jan Bors: Former Head of Delegation for Czechia at Eurovision, former Senior Content Producer for Česká Televize, and a music producer based in Prague.
  • Tali Eshkoli: Producer of Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv, and has served as a jury member in many Eurovision pre-selections, notably Melodifestivalen.

The last time Luxembourg competed at Eurovision, there were no Semi Finals, and Donne-moi une chance by Modern Times participated automatically in the Grand Final. In the New Year, we will find out in which Semi Final Luxembourg’s 2024 entry will compete, marking the Grand Duchy’s 38th participation in the Contest.
