The Portuguese Eurovision entrant from 1994, Sara Tavares, has died at the age of 45. She passed away after a brain tumor battle which lasted for over a decade.
Sara’s music career started back in 1993 when she participated and won the first series of “Chuva de Estrelas”, and then the following year she won Festival da Canção and went on to represent Portugal in Eurovision in Dublin. She released a total of six studio albums and numerous singles before being diagnosed with brain tumor, due to which she took a break from her music career between 2009 and 2017.
In 2018 she was nominated for a Latin Grammy in the “Best Portuguese Language Roots Album” category. She released her last single “Kurtidu” just over two months ago.
Sara Tavares represented Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 1994 in Dublin and ended up finishing in 8th place, which was Portugal’s second best result in their Eurovision history at the time. Give a listen to her song “Chamar a musica” below:
