VB gang: ‘Some of the most creative, energetic and colorful people in the world live in Lithuania!’

We had an opportunity to reach and talk to one of the Lithuania’s national selection finalists Vidas Bareikis from the band ‘VB gang’.

Read our interview below to find out about their song ‘KABOOM’, band’s inspiration, what surprises are waiting for us and so on.

E: For our readers who don’t know ‘VB gang’, how would you introduce yourself as a band?

V: We are English and Korean singing band “VB gang” and we are bringing crazy party music from Lithuania! Our first task is to represent Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest. I always knew that after completing the stage of my first musical decade, I would continue to dive into new creations and the style that I like the most at the moment. I just adore that frenzy, that “rave” and our unique energy and fun that we create together with the “VB gang” and our audience. Now an international audience, both Europe and the whole world, will be able to get infected with this virus. The funniest thing is that I am not going on this trip alone, but together with time-tested like-minded people. “VB gang” consists not only me, but also the owner of one of the most unique voices in Lithuania – vocalist Gabija Lokytė (KETO GABI), charming drummer Rasa Vaštakaitė (DRUM GIRL) , charismatic guitarist Mantas Ralas (GUITARAL) and energetic dancers Agnė Grigonytė (KITTY) and Dovydas Slivka (D- PUNK).

E: Vidas, this is not your first time at lithuanian national selection, you were with Ieva Zasimauskaitė in 2017 with song ‘I Love My Phone’. What was that experience like?

V: It was really fun. The biggest victory from that stage is my friendship with Ieva, which lasts to this day. I really liked the idea of the song about people who love their phones more than each other. It was relevant then and it is relevant now even more.

E: Your song in Eurovizija.lt is called “Kaboom!”. Can you tell us about the meaning of the song?

V: Our song “KABOOM!!” is a comical story about a super-fast hero armed with speed glasses and his partner who tries to catch up with him in every possible way. She really hopes that they are meant for each other and that their love affair doesn’t end with a big “KABOOM!!!” Sometimes he acts really crazy and then sings- GUGSU CHICKIN NEEEEE!!!!

E: There is Korean lyrics in the song, why you wanted to include that?

V: It was important for me to have some element of surprise in the song. Like a deviation from the song itself, to a moment a fooling around. Plus i really like eastern culture, that’s why we chose Korean. Other thing is that i really hope that our first solo concerts will be held in South Korea;)

E: Your performance have similar atmosphere with Netta’s ‘Toy’ and Käärijä’s ‘Cha Cha Cha’, did any of these eurovision artists inspired you?

V: No. Our biggest inspirations are Prodigy, Scooter, Black Eyed Peas and electronic dance music in general.

E: How do you prepare for the final of Eurovizija.lt, so you have any more ideas to your performance?

V: We are completely dissatisfied with our performance in the semi-finals and are preparing many improvements both in terms of sound and the performance itself. We have a vision of what our show should ultimately look like, and we haven’t achieved it yet. A lot of work is expected in the coming month and we will be fully prepared for the final.

E: Winning Eurovizija.lt would mean you can represent Lithuania in Eurovision. What would it mean to you if it happened? And what would be your message for Europe?

V: We would be very happy with our victory, and first of all, it would mean that in the end Lithuania chose not a simple, safe option for this competition, but something completely unexpected, bright and controversial. We wouldn’t go unnoticed at the big Eurovision. For sure. We already have a complete plan on how we will spread our message to the whole of Europe. And it would be like that. Some of the most creative, energetic and colorful people in the world live in Lithuania! If we can do it, so can you! Let’s celebrate life!

E: Also, what do you think makes a song a winning one when trying to appeal to both the public and juries?

V: First of all we are having so much fun and we are ready to represent Lithuania. Second – this song sounds catchy and modern, has musical and choreographic hooks. Our style is memorable, and the stage production is super professional. We have very energetic and charismatic six people on the stage and from the first moment this song is super popular among foreign audience. I think this is very important. It is necessary to predict how the entire vast and diverse Europe will react to it, not just Lithuania. We are ready to show the whole of Europe how Lithuanians know how to celebrate, that we have enough energy to charge the world’s largest power plants, and bright pink and blue can sometimes become our national colors!

E: What is your favourite lithuanian entry in Eurovision? And what is your all times favourite Eurovision song?

V: Lithuanian- LT UNITED. All times Eurovision- Alexander Rybak – Fairytale.

E: Thank you for your time, do you have a message to our website readers?

V: Yes. Thank you for spending your time with us. And now get up, get dressed and go out into nature. Take a walk, enjoy it and remember once again that life is wonderful!
