Victor Gulick: “This track was entirely created by me!”

Victor Gulick is one of the 11 artists who made the finals in the Moldavian national final for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. Victor’s song “Fever” finished in 8th place in the Live Auditions, and therefore secured a spot in the final, which will take place this Saturday. We got the chance to catch up with Victor ahead of his big performance.

Hello Victor and thank you so much for taking the time to answer a few of our questions –

First of all, what should those readers, who are not familiar with you yet, know about you?

I can tell about myself that I’m just a guy from a small post-Soviet country called Moldova, who really loves music and wants to share his creativity!

Who are your musical influences and inspirations?

If we consider specific artists who influenced the formation of my musical taste, there are a huge number of them. It can start with Ed Sheeran and The Weeknd and end with Queen, Elton John, and Fleetwood Mac. And these are just a few examples. I can note that I love quite diverse music, namely the diversity of genres can inspire me the most in creativity. The second inspiration is life and what surrounds me.

What has been your best experience with music so far?

It’s quite challenging to answer this question because every time I think that it’s the best experience, whether it’s a concert or a musical session with someone, other events come up that excite me no less, and sometimes even more! The music itself and musical activities are the best experience!

What was your motivation to enter Moldova’s national selection?

Originally, I didn’t have plans to participate in the contest. I was simply preparing for the release of my new single. Just like last year (but back then it was on the radio), I appeared on TV with the premiere of the song. The host asked if I had plans to try myself again at Eurovision, and at that time, I said I wasn’t sure. However, after a few days, I decided to submit an application to participate. And here I am!

How did you feel when you knew that you made it to the final of Etapa Nationala?

It was a bit unexpected, but not as emotional as last year. Apparently, there was some experience gained from the previous time.

Could you explain the meaning of your song “Fever” – How was it created?

This track was entirely created by me. The lyrics, music, arrangement, and I recorded all the instruments.

Speaking of what this song is about, it’s not about me. It’s a fictional story about the main character somehow shares his emotions with his partner through dance. Although, I believe it’s essential to let the listener interpret the song themselves. Let everyone perceive and understand it in their own way.

Have you followed Eurovision in the past? Do you consider yourself a fan of it?

I can say that I have always been curious about who will represent my country and what place they will take. Well, of course, who will become the winner! I am probably one of those fans for whom it’s more important just to find out the result and watch a brief overview but nothing more.

If yes, do you have some favorite songs?

Of course, I have favorite songs from Eurovision!

Abba “Waterloo”

Helena Paparizou “My Number One”

Måneskin “Zitti E Buoni”

And songs of my colleagues from Moldova who have already had the chance to represent our country at Eurovision, such as SunStroke Project, Zdob și Zdub, Pasha Parfeni, and many others!

Finally, what is a message you would like to spread to our readers from all over the world?

I have only two wishes for everyone – love and peace!

And hear my “Fever”!

Once again a big thank you from us! We cannot wait to see your performance on the big stage on February 17th. Good luck!
