The Netherlands’ future in Eurovision remains uncertain

In a statement published to Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS’ social media today, we have received confirmation that the investigation surrounding Joost Klein’s abrupt disqualification from the Grand Final of Eurovision 2024 is still ongoing.

Additionally, the Dutch broadcaster still stands firmly behind Joost, saying in the post that they “still believe the disqualification was unnecessary and disproportionate.” Details of what exactly caused the disqualification are still unavailable, as the investigation continues, the specifics cannot be revealed “yet”.

AVROTROS calls on the EBU to allow an independent investigation to take place to address “structural problems” with how Eurovision is organized.

Furthermore, the statement ends somewhat ominously, with the broadcaster commenting on the Netherlands’ potential future at the Eurovision Song Contest.

“We will keep participation in the Eurovision Song Contest under consideration.”

Joost Klein’s Europapa finished in 2nd place in Semi Final 2 before being disqualified from Eurovision 2024.
