Irish folk metal band Cruachan submitted a song for Eurovision 2023

The folk metal band Cruachan from Ireland has been active since 1992 and are well known in Ireland for their unique genre of combining Irish folk music with metal sounds. Cruachan put a focus on Celtic music and frequently use aspects of Celtic mythology in their lyrics and are therefore recognized as one of the founders of the genre Celtic metal.

Cruachan have now confirmed on their social media accounts, that they have submitted a song to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in the United Kingdom:

Just like last year, Ireland will select their Eurovision representative through a national selection, which just opened its submissions. On their official Instagram account, Cruachan already revealed more information about their potential Eurovision song:

It’s a typical Cruachan song and we feel it’s time Ireland left the usual and expected ‘pop’ stuff behind and went for something different. One of the greatest things we have in Ireland is our folk music yet it’s never utilised so we’re hoping to put that right. Folk metal in the eurovision?

In case you are unfamiliar with Cruachan’s music, you can listen to one of their biggest songs “Blood for the Blood God” here and decide if you would like to see folk metal in Eurovision next year!

Despite being the country with the most Eurovision victories, Ireland has not been able to reach a Top 10 placement  in the last 10 years and even failed to qualify to the Grand Final in the last three editions of the contest.
