Sam Ryder Is Gunning For His First Number 1

It would seem that two has been Sam Ryder’s lucky number in 2022. After releasing ‘Space Man’ on 22nd February (22.2.2022) on BBC2, he was drawn in the second half of the running order for the Grand Final, eventually given spot 22, and finishing second place overall, with the song going on to hit number 2 on the UK Official Singles Chart.

While all of that has been fantastic news for any UK Eurovision fan, the number 1 has eluded Sam, despite getting more points than any previous UK act at Eurovision.

Sam released his debut album, ‘There’s Nothing But Space, Man’ last week and so far he has outsold his closest competitor (SZA) by a margin of two to one.

If this trend continues, Sam’s debut album will hit number 1 when the new chart is released on Friday. Were this to happen, it would be the first debut album by a solo artist to hit number 1 in the UK since Olivia Rodrigo did it in 2021.
