Romania has chosen Ilinca and Alex Florea for Kiev

Tonight, ten acts fought it out to win Selecția Națională, the Romanian show that selects the country’s representative in the Eurovision Song Contest. In addition to the ticket to Kiev in May, tonight’s winner also wins 5000 Euros prize money – quite a decent amount of spending money in Ukraine!

Ilinca feat. Alex Florea came out victorious with their Yodel/Rap mash up song “Yodel It!” Despite performing quite early on in the night it was the runaway winner from the opening of polls, beating M I H A I and Instinct who came 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The final televoting results are as follows:

  1. Ilinca feat. Alex Florea – “Yodel It!” – 10377 votes
  2. M I H A I – “I Won’t Surrender” – 5201 votes
  3. Instict – “Petale” – 3063 votes
  4. Maxim feat. Nicolae Voiculeț – “Adu-ți aminte” – 2801 votes
  5. Xandra – “Walk On By” – 2556 votes
  6. Cristina Vasiu – “Set the Skies on Fire” – 2222 votes
  7. Ramona Nerra – “Save Me” – 2102 votes
  8. Eduard Santha – “Wild Child” – 1331 votes
  9. Tavi Colen & Emma – “We Own the Night” – 1128 votes
  10. Ana Maria Mirică – “Spune-mi tu” – 913 votes

Tonight also saw performances from Timebelle, Manuel Navarro and Sunstroke Project, plus a set from ABBA tribute band Arrival.

Romania have been drawn to perform in the first half of the second semi final of the Eurovision Song Contest, broadcast on the 11th May 2017
