Mimi Werner: “It’s so inspiring that you’re watching Melodifestivalen!”

Melodifestivalen 2016 will start in February, and the aim is to select the best entry for Sweden which is the host country of 61st Eurovision Song Contest. Mimi Werner is one of the newcomers to Melodifestivalen, and she will compete in the first semi final with the song “Ain’t no good” composed by Göran Werner, Marcus Svedin, Jason Saenz and Mimi herself. Let’s get to know her a little more!

What was your first reaction when you discovered that you will take part in Melodifestivalen 2016?

It actually came as a big surprise for me so I was very happy when I got the news. It felt so right!

How did you decide to submit the song “Ain’t No Good”, and can you tell us a bit more about the team behind your song?

Last spring, I signed a songwriter and artist deal with the company BMG Scandinavia. Me and my two writers Göran Werner and Marcus Svedin went down to Nashville and wrote music together with songwriter from the United States for three weeks .”Ain’t No good” was one of the songs we wrote together with Jason Seanz, a great songwriter from Texas. When we had written the song we all felt that it would be suitable for Melodifestivalen so we send it to SVT. I would describe this song as country , uptempo and with a lot of power!

How are the preparations for Melodifestivalen going? Do you already have some ideas about your stage performance, outfits etc.?

We’re doing well! Right now we’re working hard to get the stage performance to match the song. The song is very warm and rhythmical so that’s very important for me to get in the staging. You may also see some dancers on stage.. 🙂

Melodifestivalen 2016 is full of come-back’s and in your semifinal 5 artists already performed in this competition before. You will be on that stage for the first time – is this an advantage or a disadvantage?

I think it’s absolutley an advantage for me! I try not to think about what the others are doing, just focus on my own number and what I want to convey.

What’s your goal in Melodifestivalen 2016?

My goal is of course to reach out to people with my music and with the song “Aint No Good”. Get the audience a chance to get to know me as an artist and show the world who I am and welcome people in to my music world! And also to have lots of fun in this wonderful TV production!

Can you tell us more about your career and music?

Ever since I was little I’ve always known what I wanted to do. Music has always been my first priority, my goal and my dream. So I started dancing and singing when I was 4 years old and then when I turned 15 I moved 170 miles away from my family just to go to a musical school. After that I’ve been writing lots of music and touring around in Sweden with my band, and now Im here, just released my debut single “Forever Again” and doing Melodifestivalen soon.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Country, genuineness and power.

Are you a Eurovision fan, and do you have a favourite Eurovision song?

Of course! My favourite Eurovision song right now would problably be “Heroes” by Måns Zelmelöw. I think he did a wonderful job and he’s such an amazing person.

Are you happy that Stockholm will host next year’s Eurovision?

I got no doubt about that our Eurovision team is going to host a wonderful show! I’m so happy to welcome all the Eurovision fans to Stockholm, Sweden!

Finally, do you have any message for Eurovision fans who will watch Melodifestivalen online?

It’s so inspiring that you’re watching Melodifestivalen! I’m going to do my best on stage and I’m hoping you’re all going to love what I do! Keep on watching guys and thank you so much!
