Sandro will represent Cyprus at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest

Cypriot broadcaster CyBC has tonight confirmed that 23-year-old Sandro Nicolas has been chosen to represent the island nation at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest, to be hosted in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

The announcement follows weeks of speculation over the Cypriot representative for Rotterdam with German-American Sandro of Greek heritage being strongly considered the favourite by the broadcaster.

Sandro first found fame after auditioning for The Voice of Germany – under his full name Alessandro Rütten – in 2018 where he reached the third stage of the competition after an impressive audition of Shawn Mendes track ‘In My Blood‘ and surviving his battle round performance. He has since gone on to perform at prestigious Russian music festival New Wave. Check out his viral audition from The Voice of Germany out below:

In the announcement, CyBC also confirmed that more details on his song and participation will be released in the coming weeks which will give us a better insight in to the track that he will be taking with him to Rotterdam next May.

The past two years have seen Cyprus gain widespread attention as a fan favourite at the contest. Working with the same team, Greek superstars Eleni Foureira and Tamta represented the country in 2018 and 2019 respectively each securing strong performances.
