Welcome to the live-blog for the first heat of Melodifestivalen 2021, it’s starting again!
This edition will be little different from what we’re used to from Mello. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no audience present at any of the live shows and the touring, every show in a different city in Sweden, won’t happen this year either: all shows will be held at the Annexet venue in Stockholm.
While the battle arenas won’t be changing this year, the hosts will certainly do so! One man will be with us every single week, while his co-hosts will be new faces every time.
Christer Björkman has represented Sweden at Eurovision 1992 with ‘Imorgon är en annan dag’ and turned ‘’the new Melodifestivalen’’ (with several heats and touring the cities) into a huge success is saying farewell after 20 years and he will be our anchor every week, hosting his beloved contest for the first time.
This week it’s schlager icon Lena Philipsson who co-hosts with him. Lena has won Melodifestivalen 2004 with ‘Det gör ont’ and ended 5th with that song at Eurovision in Istanbul! In 2006 she shone as the sole host of Melodifestivalen 2006!
