Melodifestivalen 2024 sees slight drop in submissions

Swedish broadcaster SVT announced on Friday that a total of 2,624 songs have been submitted to Sweden’s national Eurovision final, Melodifestivalen 2024!

According to Melodifestivalen’s producer Karin Gunnarsson, the team is thrilled about the great interest in this year’s competition. She and her team are now moving on to the next phase – working with their internal juries to halve the number of submissions. According to Gunnarsson, it’s not an easy process:

Intensive work with the selection process now begins. The goal is to create a competition that is rich of hits, delightful, and engaging. It is extra fun that one of the entries will get to represent Sweden here at home at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.

The selection jury has a tough job ahead as they have to select 15 of this year’s 30 competing entries. The final 15 will be selected by SVT during the autumn.

The 2,624 songs submitted to Melodifestivalen is a slight drop of 200 from the number collected last year. Yet it’s still a far cry from the record of 3,852 sent to SVT for Melodifestivalen 2011!

The official announcement of the artists who made the cut for Melodifestivalen 2024 is expected sometime in November!
