Artists and songs for Festival da Canção 2024 released – listen here!

In the last few minutes, at a press conference held by RTP and Antena Radio at the Musicbox club in Lisbon, the song for the 2024 edition of Festival da Canção, and the artists who will perform them, were revealed. Interestingly, for the first time ever, all songwriters will be performing the songs they’ve written for the festival, which in the past has predominantly been a prize for writers.

Between 24th February and 9th March, 20 artists will compete in two 10-song semi-finals, with 12 going through to the final, hoping to earn Portugal’s ticket to Malmö.

Festival da Canção is one of the longest-running Eurovision national final formats, with 2024 representing its 56th edition. In the past, it’s been responsible for discovering such eponymous Portuguese talents as José Cid, Dulce Pontes, Lucía Moníz and Salvador Sobral, who won the Contest in 2017 with Amar pelos dois.

In 2023, Mimicat won the festival and represented Portugal in Liverpool with her song Ai coração, which finished 23rd in the Grand Final. Portugal has only failed to qualify on one occasion in the last six Contests.
