Cyprus to send ‘Liar’ to Malmö

Cypriot broadcaster CyBC has announced that Silia Kapsis’ song for Malmö will be called Liar.

In a post to the broadcaster’s social media, they ask ‘Are you ready to say no to a liar?’, a potential hint at the song’s lyrics.

Dimitris Kontopoulos is noted as a songwriter of Liar, along with Elke Tiel. Kontopoulos has penned many songs for Eurovision artists including Demy, Stefania, Anna Vissi, Sakis Rouvas, Ani Lorak, Helena Paparizou, Farid Mammadov, Aisel Məmmədova, and Natalia Gordienko.

His best results at Eurovision came for the two songs he wrote for Sergey Lazarev, both finishing in 3rd place.

Liar is the first song Kontopoulos has written for Cyprus, which ties him for the record for authoring Eurovision entries for the highest number of countries. He has now penned songs for seven countries, as has Thomas G:son from Sweden.

CyBC chose Silia Kapsis to represent Cyprus at Eurovision 2024 back in September. At the time, she was the second artist chosen for Malmö, after Mustii for Belgium.

In Liverpool, Australian-born Andrew Lambrou got Cyprus back to the Grand Final, with his song Break A Broken Heart finishing in 12th place with 126 points!
