The sixth song of this year’s Uuden musiikin kilpailu (UMK) is now out. You can listen to the song ”Kuori mua” (”Peel me”) by Sini Sabotage here:
Sini-Maria Makkonen, better known as her artist name Sini Sabotage is a Finnish rapper and DJ. She was born in 1986 in Tuusula, Southern Finland. Sabotage was interested in music already as a child, and she started singing and playing music at a very young age. She started doing gigs in 2010, and her debut single and music video ”Levikset repee” were released in April 2013. ”Levikset repee” quickly became a huge hit song, and it shot up the Official Finnish charts to number one for Singles and Downloads. ”Levikset repee” sold gold in September 2013.
The debut album of Sabotage, ”22 m2” was released in December 2013. The album was well-received and brought added exposure to the music of Sabotage. During the autumn 2013 Sabotage was also one of the judges of the seventh season of the Finnish Idol.
Sabotage released her second album, ”Blueberry Makkonen” in August 2020. Earlier that year Sabotage had released three singles from her second album: ”Käärmeet” in March 2020, ”Online” in August 2020 and ”Aerobist” in July 2020. Sabotage told YLE she considers ”Blueberry Makkonen” to be the most important achievement of her career. According to Sabotage the album ”Blueberry Makkonen” was the first one she was able to write without any outside pressure.
According to YLE, UMK marks a new chapter for Sabotage, or in her own words, a completely new book. Sabotage tells YLE her colorful contest entry ”Kuori mua” was inspired by ”a few fireball shots” and a collaborative brainstorming session with Vilma Virintie. Co-writer Virintie describes how Sabotage is like an onion, with many layers:
We’re never just what we appear to be on the outside at any given moment. We all have many sides and so much more to give than just one picture, song or moment, says Virintie.

Renowned for her classic song Levikset repee, Sini Sabotage is retaking the big stage with style and stepping back into the media spotlight with her UMK entry Kuori mua. The song is an unabashed dance banger and will be playing in clubs throughout Finland this year. The song beautifully combines Sini’s gorgeous singing voice, technical rapping, insightful lyrics and piano playing. A wonderful comeback for such a wonderful artist.
