Joel Marques: “To be back after 30 years just feels right!”

Luxembourg are returning to the contest for the first time in 31 years, and this weekend they will choose who will represent them in the contest this May in Sweden.

We caught up with Joel Marques as he prepares for the show this weekend!

Thanks for joining us Joel Marques as we look forward to Luxembourgs return to the contest!

How exciting is it to have Luxembourg back competing at Eurovision and with a huge national selection show?!
It is so exciting!! Luxembourg has such an amazing history with the Eurovision and now to be back after 30 years just feels right!:)

What made you want to take part in the selection process, have you been a fan of Eurovision growing up?
I always watched the Eurovision with my family, so it’s kind of a tradition. I’ve seen so many great artists standing on that stage and I feel like I belong on the big stage and that’s why I want to give my all on Saturday!

You recently took part in The Voice of Germany and did superbly well, making the semi-finals, how was that whole experience and what did you learn most from it?
The Voice experience was the most amazing experience I had in my life. The time I was there I learned so much about my voice and build a bigger mental strength. What I learned most was to believe in myself and in my work/projects. As a person that was always doubting every move I made, I needed this energy that I got from my coaches, the fans and the other contestants to be the artist I am today!:)

Who are your musical inspirations and what is your favourite song by another artist that you love singing the most?
My biggest inspiration has to be Bryan Adams but I love the kinds of Ed Sheeran, James Arthur, Calum Scott, Kaleo, Lumineers, Coldplay etc.

I don’t have a favourite song to sing because I love singing many songs, but I guess Dancing on my own by Callum Scott is a song that I still love to sing every day!

Away from music and performing, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy spending time with friends and family, play video games, go on a walk or play football!

What can we expect musically from you in the rest of 2024?
I’ll release an EP/album!!!! 2024 will be so exciting and I’m sooooo excited to show my songs to the world!!:)

And finally…do you have any unsual talents that people would be surprised to hear about?
I can cook and I can speak 5 languages fluently!:)

Many thanks Joel Marques, we wish you all the best for the performance in the national selection show and look forward to following your music in the future!
