Hosts of Söngvakeppnin 2022 revealed!

As Frettabladid announces the hosts of the Icelandic national selection for Eurovision 2022, Söngvakeppnin will be: Björg Magnúsdóttir, Jón Jónsson and Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir. They also revealed that the show will be organised in a new place in Gufunes.

RÚV has previously announced that the final of Söngvakeppnin will be taking place on 5th of March, but that was recently changed to 12th of March. They moved the dates one week later because by doing so there are higher chances to have an audience in the studio for the shows and thereby make each show better. This came as a result of a consultation with health authorities due to the prevalence of Covid-19 infections on the island.

Björg, Jón and Ragnhildur have all previously hosted Söngvakeppnin and this year the show will be featuring two semi-final rounds scheduled for 26th of February and 5th of March with 5 songs each. Out of the five, two songs will be chosen to go into the final by the audience and one out of the remaining six will be selected by the jury to compete at the final which will feature five songs and is set to take place on 12th of March. The voting in the final will be 50% jury and 50% televote after which the two super finalists will be announced. Those two acts will be performing again and the winner of Söngvakeppnin 2022 will be decided solely by televoting. The competing entries will be released on RÚV next Saturday – 5th of February in the TV show Lögin í Söngvakeppninn. Frettabladid also announced that “foreign Eurovision stars and Daði Freyr will, of course, perform on the final night”, they didn’t fully disclose which Eurovision stars will be guests and we suppose that is something which will be found out in the upcoming period.

Iceland was successful at Eurovision Song Contest 2021 as their entry “10 Years” by Daði og Gagnamagnið managed to get 378 points and end the contest on 4th place, scoring their best result since Yohanna in 2009.
