Sanremo winner will represent Italy in Eurovision 2015!

The Italian national broadcaster RAI have just announced that the winner of the well-known San Remo music festival will be entitled to represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest as well!

After their break of 13 years with no participation, and their comeback in 2011, three out of four Italian Eurovision entrants were connected with the San Remo music festival. Raphael Gualazzi was the winner of the newcomers category, and then represented Italy in Dusseldorf, where he finished second. Nina Zilli was an entrant in San Remo in 2012, and a special jury selected her as their Eurovision entrant for Baku. The following year, Marco Mengoni was selected to represent Italy in Eurovision, and he ended up winning San Remo with “L’Essenziale” – the song he performed in Eurovision as well. Emma Marrone was selected internally this year with “La mia citta”.

RAI seems to be back to its roots, as the winner of San Remo will also represent Italy in Eurovision. There is no news yet if the song will be the same one from San Remo, or not.

The 65th SanRemo music festival will take place between the 10th and the 14th of February 2015.
