More than 90 artists have expressed their wish to represent Romania at the Eurovision 2016.

This year’s edition of the Eurovision National Selection in Romania has attracted over 90 songs and each competitor hopes for a place on the stage from Baia Mare city.

Today, February 8th, the organisers of the Eurovision National Selection 2016, had a very busy day. According to the competition calendar, within TVR headquarter, there have been verified and counted the subscription files for over 90 songs, registered for the National Selection.
Both local stars and many foreign songwriters of different nationalities – Swedish, German, British, American, Spanish, Italian and Polish – hope to represent Romania, at the Stockholm contest, in May. As it happened a year before, the participants whose files do not fulfill the conditions imposed by the Code of Rules, have at their disposal 24 hours to complete their files.

The counting and the verifying of the files with the songs included, took place at TVR’s headquarter, where the documents were opened and checked in the presence of an authorised notary. The registrations period for the envelope entries has ended on Sunday, February 7th, at 20.00 hrs, and for the e-mail registrations, it ended at 00.00 hrs.

Iuliana Marciuc, the head of Romanian delegation and the producer of the National Selection said:

I am extremely happy to see that more and more young talents are interested in Eurovision. Young talents, but not beginners, known and loved by the public, have sent their best songs, starting with September 2015. They are the first to prove that Eurovision is not only the greatest musical European festival, but also an event that brings hope and aspiration to the participants – and that TVR is the institution which can offer them this chance. We thank the ones who have registered for Stockholm competition for showing us their trust.

The next step is the preselection of the registered songs for the National Selection. Here, all the songs accepted in the competition, (according to the Code of rules), will be heard by a professional jury.  At the end of the auditions, the jury will choose 12 songs which will compete in the semifinal of the National Selection 2016, on March 4th. The National Final will take place on Sunday, March 6th.
