Financial Woes Threaten Bosnian Exclusion From EBU

The Bosnian public broadcaster BHRT is risking withdrawal from EBU membership services by the end of this month, unless the public service provider settles at least part of its debts.

President of the Steering Board of BHRT, Mr Esad Gotovusa, announced that the Departmental Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina did not adopt BHRT’s reports on planning documents and financial audits for the past year, nor did it accept the broadcaster’s plans for the upcoming year.

This means that the Bosnian national broadcaster would not have the rights to broadast events such as EURO 2016, but also Champions League games, European Handball Championships and many other sporting events, including news services.

In addition, Bosnian participation in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine 2017 is also in jeopardy.

Mr Gotovusa said:

I have no answer to the question what will happen if a solution is not found soon.

Bosnia and Herzegovina failed to qualify to the Grand Final of Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm. Have a listen to the Bosnian entry “Ljubav Je” sung by Dalal & Deen feat. Ana Rucner & Jala.
