Söngvakeppnin 2018 has just finished and we can reveal that Ari Ólafsson will be representing Iceland in Lisbon with the ballad Our Choice.

The song was not a favourite coming into the final but Ari’s message of hope and a choice to make the world a better place took Iceland by the heart tonight. This ballad aims to be a message for dark times and seeks peace in turmoil.

After a televote and jury vote (worth 50% each) the following songs made it into the Superfinal:

1. Dagur Sigurdsson – I stormi – 44,730
2. Ari Ólafsson – Our Choice – 35,861

There was a shock as favourite Golddigger by Aron Hannes, your pick of the final, didn’t make the cut but Dagur and Ari by far had the best vocal of the evening. The superfinal saw both vocalists relax and up their vocal game perfecting the high notes and throwing their all into the audience, a pleasure to watch talents compete in such an epic battle.

After another televote it was revealed that Ari Ólafsson had edged the vote with the other songs out of the picture. Ari will perform in the first half of the first semi-final in Lisbon.
