The first song of this year’s Finnish national selection for Eurovision, Uuden musiikin kilpailu (UMK) is out! You can listen to the song I Let My Heart Break by Tika here:
Tika is a young singer who was adopted to Sweden from Nepal when she was one and a half years old. She is a citizen of Sweden, but has been living in Finland for a long time. Tika is a building painter by profession.
Tika has taken part in different singing competitions, like the Swedish Idol and The Voice of Finland. In 2018 Tika won the second season of X-Factor Finland where she was coached by no other than the Finnish Eurovision star Saara Aalto. This is how Tika performed in X-Factor two years ago:
According to Yle, Tika tells the following of her reasons to participate in UMK:
I applied to UMK because I love Eurovision and I think UMK is an amazing concept. I got an opportunity to be part of this and it is so wonderful!
The six finalists of UMK 2020 has been chosen by a professional jury, which consists of many Finnish music industry professionals. The jury has given some comments of the six competing songs. This is what the jury said of Tika’s song I Let My Heart Break:
This could be in the new James Bond -movie. A big song, Tika’s amazing voice and mesmerizing personality create a strong entirety. The production team of M-Eazy has strong showings of making pop-hits and this is a great international level’s power ballad.
The next UMK 2020 -song, Cicciolina by Erika Vikman will be published on Monday, January 27th.
