Agathonas Iakovidis passes away at the age of 65

Saw news has reached us from Greece, as Agathonas Iakovidis has passed away earlier today at the age of 65.

Agathonas is known to Eurovision fans for his iconic performance alongside the band Koza Mostra when they represented Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, Sweden.
Together they brought their country to the top 10 (7th place!) with the catchy ‘Alcohol Is Free’!

Agathonas was famous in Greece for being a folk singer performing in the rebetiko style.
His parents were refugees, having fled from the Asian part of Turkey and Agathonas himself was born in Evangelismos, part of the Thessaloniki regional unit.
As an autodidactic (self-taught) music student he started his music career in 1973, meaning his impressive oevre spans over 6 decades!

Today Agathonas was found dead in his bed as the result of a heart attack.

This Eurovision performance still warms the hearts of fans:

Rest in Peace, Agathonas.
ESCBubble expresses its condolences towards his friends and family.
