Måneskin get a second song into the UK Top 40

The winners of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, Måneskin have reached The UK Top 40 with their new single “I Wanna Be Your Slave” rising from 83 to Number 24.

This is one place higher than their winning song “Zitti e Buoni” which has fallen 8 places from Number 17 last week to Number 25 in today’s charts (4/6/21).

As BBC Newsbeat reported, Zitti E Buoni was the first song in Italian to get into the UK Top 20 in 29 years. The last song to do that featured legendary opera singer Luciano Pavarotti for Italia 90.

James Newman who represented The UK, unfortunately didn’t make the UK Top 40. The last person to reach the UK Top 40 who represent the UK was Molly, who reached Number 23 back in 2014.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, band member Victoria spoke of how proud the band are to reach the UK charts, saying:

“Being in the UK chart is really great because it’s not easy for Italian artists. It’s incredible,”

Victoria also spoke about one of their latest fans following them, saying:

We noticed Miley Cyrus started followed us… which is amazing

Victoria continued:

We just went as ourselves without conforming to the kind of music that people think is usually played at the contest.

It proved the actual audience at home loved our music. That’s who we played for.
