Here is the sixth song of UMK23

The sixth song of this year’s Uuden musiikin kilpailu (UMK) has been released. You can listen to the song ”Ylivoimainen” by KUUMAA here:

KUUMAA is a Finnish pop band consisting of three members: Joonas Brotherus (vocals), Jonttu Luhtavaara (drums) and Aarni Soivio (bass). KUUMAA was founded in 2016, and that same year the band made a recording deal with Universal Music based on their first demo. In May 2017 the band released their first single ”Uppoon suhun” and their debut album Kuumaa came out in April 2019. 

Yle describes KUUMAA as a fast-rising band, whose core is catchy tunes, emotions on a big scale and the steadfast friendship between the band members. The pandemic years brought them even closer to each other, and the band members started to produce even more music together. In 2022 band’s popularity crew when it took streaming services, radio waves and stages by storm with big hit songs like ”Tulipalo” and ”Oo vielä sekunnin mun”. 

”For us, the band is, above all, a group of friends. We’re united by our ambition. This should be taken seriously, but not too seriously”, says Johannes.

According to Yle, ”Ylivoimainen” is a a hard-charging pop song that has an universal, infectious energy.

This is what the jury of UMK23 said about KUUMAA and their song ”Ylivoimainen”:

“KUUMAA sets the tone for how a Finnish band should sound in 2023: it is charismatic, cutting edge and has the ability to make big songs for streaming services and radio, alike. The band’s frontman Johannes Brotherus is charming and the band’s performance at UMK will bring it to a whole new level on its already skyrocketing trajectory. “Ylivoimainen” is a harder-charging version of KUUMAA that is sure to rock the stage at Logomo and on Finnish television come February.”
