AVROTROS open submissions for Eurovision 2024 and make several changes

After a disappointing result for the Dutch at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, broadcaster AVROTROS stated that they needed some time top evaluate and make some plans, before they would open the submission period for next year. Now they’ve made up their mind and have made some changes!

First of all, the selection committee is going to be expanded. We know that AVROTROS’ General Director Eric van de Stade has left as head of the panel and so has singer and Eurovision host Jan Smit.
Those staying on the committee are:

  • Cornald Maas (TV presenter & Eurovision commentator)
  • Sander Lantinga (Radio DJ)
  • Carolien Borgers (Singer & radio DJ)
  • Hila Noorzai (TV presenter & radio DJ)

Who else will be part of the expanded panel hasn’t been announced yet, but a new president for the committee has already been found in the shape of Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen. Twan has been Head of Contest for the past three editions (Rotterdam 2021, Turin 2022 & Liverpool 2023). And that’s not all for Twan, he has also been chosen as the new Dutch Head of Delegation!

Twan is very honoured and states the following:

I am proud with the request of AVROTROS to lead this challenging and unique project. I’m looking forward to using the knowledge and experience I’ve gained in recent years at the Eurovision Song Contest to put down a strong and convincing entry for the Netherlands.

Those who wish to be part of that entry can send email their song(s) to AVROTROS until 30th September 23:59 CET. The rules and requirements can be found here (in Dutch). This year, it’s also possible to send in just a song, for which (in cooperation with the selection committee) a suitable artist can be found later on.

In Liverpool, the Netherlands were represented by Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper, singing ‘Burning Daylight’:

Who do you hope will send in a song to represent the Netherlands at Eurovision 2024 in Malmö, Sweden?
