Melodifestivalen announces 2024 tour

Swedish Eurovision fans rejoice! Melodifestivalen is going back on tour in 2024!

The festivities will kick off in Malmö Arena for Heat 1 on 3rd February, some 94 days before Semi Final 1 of Eurovision 2024 will go live in the same venue!

The Melfest tour will continue to wind its way across southern Sweden for another five weeks, with the Final set for Friends Arena in Stockholm on 9th March.

  • Heat 1 — 3th February 2024 — Malmö — Malmö Arena
  • Heat 2 — 10th February 2024 — Gothenburg — Scandinavium
  • Heat 3 — 17th February 2024  — Växjö Vida Arena
  • Heat 4 — 24th February 2024 — Eskilstuna — Stiga Sports Arena
  • Heat 5 — 2th March 2024 — Karlstad — Löfbergs Arena
  • Final — 9th March 2024 — Stockholm — Friends Arena

Remember that changes to the format for 2024 mean a total of 30 songs will compete, and no “second chance round” will be held. Fans will be treated to six new songs each week, across the five heats. Songs that place first and second will get an automatic place in the Final, whereas songs that finish third and fourth in each heat will be placed in a run off vote that happens at the end of Heat 5.

Melodifestivalen project manager Anders Wistbacka is excited to be gearing up for a new tour and had this to say with today’s news release:

We are really looking forward to going out into the country again to offer new music, live experiences and sparkling artistry. It’s always just as fun to meet the audience on site.

You may have noticed that this year’s cities are all clustered in the south of Sweden. Wistbacka clarified that this is due to scheduling conflicts with appropriate venues in the north of the country and that the tour hopes to return to the north in 2025.

As Loreen triumphed in Liverpool in May with Tattoo, whoever emerges victorious from Melodifestivalen 2024 will have a place in the Grand Final at Eurovision in Malmö on 11th May. You can check out Loreen’s Melfest winning performance from March below.
