Festival da Canção 2024 sets record for submissions

Portugal’s Eurovision selection show Festival da Canção‘s submission window for 2024 has closed.

In a post shared on RTP’s social media – and not to be outdone by their Iberian neighbours – the Portuguese broadcaster confirmed that 809 submissions were received through their online portal – a record for FdC!

Now the hard work begins for the show’s producers, who will now work to narrow these 809 songs down to just six that will go to the live shows.

RTP will announce the six lucky artists who made it, along with the 14 invited artists in the coming months. The Grand Final is expected for March, and could very well end up on the same night as the Final of Melodifestivalen on the 9th, like it did last year.

In Liverpool, Mimicat qualified Portugal to a third Grand Final in a row, something that hasn’t happened since 2010. Ai coração finished Eurovision 2023 in 23rd place with 59 points at the end of the voting.
