Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix set for 3rd February

At a meeting of Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix Club, the big boss of MGP, Stig Karlsen announced that the Norwegian Grand Final is set for Saturday, 3rd February!

According to ESC Norge, while Karlsen was unable to give any more details at this stage about the location or hosts, he did drop a few hints to those in attendance. He promises a surprising pair of hosts and a wide range of songs of all genres and age groups.

MGP 2024 will feature three Semi Finals, each containing six songs. Assuming the top three qualify from each Semi, we could see a Final with nine acts.

In addition to 3rd February, add 5th January to your calendars — that’s the date when MGP will reveal the 18 artists in this year’s competition. And if you’re in Norway, you might even be eligible to be present at the big reveal!

The show schedule will therefore look like this:

  • Semi Final 1 — Saturday, 13th January
  • Semi Final 2 — Saturday, 20th January
  • Semi Final 3 — Saturday 27th January
  • Grand Final — Saturday, 3rd February

Karlsen also revealed that Mattias Carlsson is retiring from the role of stage director he has held since 2008. Mona Berntsen will take Mattias’ place. Berntsen’s résumé is quite extensive including being a dancer for Justin Bieber, judging on the show Norske Talenter, and winning the Scandinavian version of So You Think You Can Dance!

Alessandra triumphed at MGP 2023 and brought Norway back to the Top 5 at Eurovision in Liverpool with her hit Queen of Kings!
