Mélovin and Jerry Heil remain among final Ukrainian hopefuls for Malmö

Preparations for the Ukrainian selection for Eurovision 2024 are ramping up. While we are still waiting for an exact date, the final of Vidbir 2024 will take place this February, and the winner will represent Ukraine at Eurovision in Malmö in May!

Today Vidbir’s music producer Dmytro Shurov (Pianoboy) announced in a press release from Ukraine’s national broadcaster Suspilne, the list of the 10 acts that are guaranteed a spot in the Final.

Shurov had this to say about the process thus far:

“Creating songs, applications, preparation, auditions — all this is a huge amount of work and emotional stress for the artists and their teams, and for the [broadcaster’s] team, and for me personally. And the most important thing is that throughout the whole process we are on the same wavelength and feel that we are doing a common thing together, from which Ukrainian music will definitely benefit. […] If we put emotions aside, these ten are objectively the strongest artists […] with the most hit songs, who are here, today, as much as possible ready to represent Ukraine on an international forum.”

There is still one place left in the final. An eleventh artist will be on the Vidbir stage in February. Public voting will determine that wildcard spot, but we’ll all have to wait until later in January to hear all the songs.

Ukraine’s Head of Delegation at Eurovision, Oksana Skybinska, gave some more information about the process:

“The songs of the ten finalists will be released, according to tradition, closer to the final of the National Selection. By the end of this year, we suggest focusing on those artists and songs that can still compete for a place in the final and are definitely worth the attention of listeners both in Ukraine and abroad. Already in December, voting will take place in Diya, and everyone will be able to listen to the songs of the longlist participants, who will claim the eleventh place in the Final.”

Tvorchi won the 2023 edition of Vidbir, and went on to represent Ukraine in Eurovision in Liverpool earlier this year. Their entry Heart Of Steel finished in 6th place in the Grand Final. Check out their performance below!
