‘Ich will zum ESC’: Germany’s new national selection

For a second day in a row, we have news that a national broadcaster is changing its Eurovision selection show. Yesterday, RTVSLO announced that Misjia Malmö was to be canceled in favour of an internal selection, and today it’s Germany’s turn!

German broadcasters ARD/NDR had previously announced that Eurovision Song Contest – Das deutsche Finale 2024 will be the show to select Germany’s 2024 artist for Eurovision. Today we have news from eurovision.de that Ich will zum ESC will be the process to complete the line up for the national final that will determine the country’s 67th Eurovision artist.

The path to Das deutsche Finale 2024 will be broadcast in this new show, which is being described as a six-part ‘docutainment series’. Eurovision 2014 winner Conchita along with musician Rea Garvey will play a key role in the series.

A total of 15 artists remain in the running, and will participate in the show. They are:

  • Anne from Hamburg
  • Apollson from Regensburg
  • Béranger from Berlin
  • Bibiane from Berlin
  • Celina from Bonn
  • Christos from Mindelheim
  • Esther from Delmenhorst
  • Florian from Künzelsau
  • Jamina from Hamburg
  • Luca from Berlin
  • Lyn from Günzburg
  • Marie from München
  • Paul from Leipzig
  • Sophie from Berlin
  • Sven from Essen

Conchita is looking forward to the role of coach on Ich will zum ESC:

“We offer participants a unique opportunity. Anyone who has been able to experience the very special flair of the ESC stage will carry this life-changing experience in their hearts forever!”

The first three shows of the series will be available online on 25th January in the ARD Media Library. The penultimate episode will be released on 1st February, and the contestants still in the competition will begin working on their Eurovision songs in that episode.

The final episode will be broadcast live on Thursday 8th February at 22:00 CET, with fans able to vote for the act they want to get a place in the German national final on Friday, 16th February!

In Liverpool, Lord of the Lost represented Germany, and unfortunately took last place in the Grand Final with Blood & Glitter.
