Songwriters drawn for semi-finals of Festival da Canção 2024

In the last few minutes, RTP has held the semi-final draw for the 58th edition of Festival da Canção. In a short press conference led by Portuguese HoP Maria Dias, the songwriters were sorted into two 10-song semi-finals, which will go as follows:

FILIPA, who lives abroad, was automatically selected to perform in Semi-Final 2 for logistical reasons.

As is customary, only the songwriters, who were released on 6th November, are currently known for FDC 2024, with the performing artists to be released at a later, as yet unconfirmed, date. The dates and venue for the show are also, as yet, to be announced, although FDC’s social media has informed fans to be attentive in the coming days for new information. RTP also released the logo for the 2024 edition and a playlist featuring songs by all of the songwriters competing (except Huca).

The artists for this edition were, as ever, picked by a combination of broadcaster invites and open song submissions, with the winner getting the opportunity to represent Portugal at Eurovision 2024 in Malmö. The long-running national final has been responsible for the discovery of such pivotal Portuguese artists as José Cid, Dulce Pontes, Lúcia Moniz and ESC 2017 winner Salvador Sobral. Last year’s winner, Mimicat, brought her song Ai Coração to the Contest in Liverpool, continuing Portugal’s glittering record of never failing to qualify for the final in the 2020s so far.
