Eight of the nine songs competing at Das Deutsche Finale 2024 released – listen here!
Earlier today, German broadcaster NDR released the artists and songs that will compete in Das Deutsche Finale 2024, on 17th February at Studio Berlin Adlershof. Nine songs will eventually feature in the show, with eight coming from the invitees released today, and the ninth coming from the winner of ARD’s Ich wil zum ESC!, on 8th February.
The names of the eight artists and competing songs are:
- Bodine Monet – Tears Like Rain
- Galant – Katze
- Isaak – Always On The Run
- Leona – Undream You
- Marie Reim – Naiv
- Max Mutzke – Forever Strong
- NinetyNine – Love On A Budget
- Ryk – Oh Boy
Artists were able to upload their songs to either eurovision.de or TikTok, under the hashtag #EurovisionGermany2024, until 15th October last year. The chosen songs have now all been uploaded to the platform.
Eurofans will likely recognise one name on the list: Max Mutzke, who represented Germany in 2004 with the Stefan Raab-penned Can’t Wait Until Tonight, beating eponymous Techno band Scooter in the national final on his way to finishing 8th in Istanbul, still one of his country’s best results in the 21st Century.
One song that some very online fans may notice isn’t on the list is Ich kündige, the viral hit by German Electropop group Großstadtgeflüster, which had been rumoured on social media for some time to be taking part given its length and release date, after 1st September 2023. The band confirmed on their Instagram this week that they hadn’t even applied.
The ninth artist will come from Das Erste’s brand new talent scout show Ich wil zum ESC!, the final of which airs on 8th February, overseen by musician Rea Garvey and Eurovision 2014 winner Conchita Wurst. This will be one of: Anne, Apollson, Bibiane, Béranger, Celina, Christos, Esther, Florian, Jamina, Luca, Lyn, Marie, Paul, Sophie or Sven.
Germany is hoping to dispel a long period of bad results at Eurovision this year, that has seen them finish in last on four occasions, and in the bottom 5 on seven, in the last ten contests. One of those last places, disappointingly, came last year in Liverpool, when the much-anticipated glam rock anthem Blood & Glitter by Lord of the Lost failed to resonate with either the juries or the public, and earned just 18 points in the final.
