One Last Time: “We’re rocking it out because that’s what feels right. It’s in our blood.”

This weekend, the hotly-anticipated selection for Luxembourg’s first representative since their return to the Eurovision Song Contest will take place and we will learn which of the eight competing artists will get the ticket to Malmö, Sweden. This will be the first year that Luxembourg has appeared at the contest since 1993, so all eyes are on whether Luxembourg will make a successful return to the contest.

Amongst those artists competing to represent their home nation of Luxembourg is the band One Last Time. The young, eclectic group are making a name for themselves on the Luxembourg circuit and are very excited for the opportunity to perform their track “Devil In The Detail” at the Luxembourg Song Contest during the selection final this weekend. Editor David had a chance to catch up with the group ahead of their rehearsals for the live show and found out how they were feeling ahead of the show.

Check out the interview with the band below:

D: Hey guys – welcome to the Luxembourg Song Contest! How did it feel for you when you were chosen to compete for a chance at representing your country at Eurovision? Are you fans of the Eurovision Song Contest?

Starting off, we couldn’t believe we actually made it to the finale. It felt unreal for a while, but now we’re just super honored and excited about representing our country on such a huge stage.

D: This year is even more exciting for Luxembourg, returning to the contest after 31 years away. Does that opportunity to be their first representative of the new era make it more exciting? Does it add any more pressure on you?

We’ve all had our Eurovision moments growing up, not exactly superfans but definitely part of the crowd that tunes in. It’s pretty nostalgic. And this year, with Luxembourg getting back in the game after 31 years, it’s like we’re part of something really special. Sure, it’s a bit nerve-wracking, but in a good way.

D: There are five of you in the band – Andrea, Tom, Jona, Barbara & Lalo. You’ve been together now since 2022, so how did you all meet and who put the band together?

Our band – that’s Andrea, Tom, Jona, Barbara, and Lalo – kinda came together organically since 2022. Our paths crossed in different ways: Lalo and I go way back because of his dad, Barbara’s been a familiar face since 2010, I knew Jonathan from my first year in high school, and Tom came into the picture in 2021 through my fiancé. We were talking about the good old days of making music, playing Mario Kart and having fun. It just clicked, you know?

Starting a band together was the next logical step.

D: Our readers absolutely love to find out more about the competing musicians, and especially members of the bands! So tell us a fun or crazy fact about each of you – or how you would describe each person in the band.

Our fans love getting the inside scoop on us. So here’s a quick rundown: I’m the cautious one (Jona), trying to keep everyone on track. Lalo’s the life of the party and a killer on the drums. Barbara brings her classic piano vibe, lifting our whole sound. Tom’s like the band dad, juggling our socials and all the admin stuff. And Andrea, our lead singer, he’s got this natural charm that just pulls everyone in.

D: We have to talk about your song “Devil in the Detail”. Rock isn’t a genre that we have heard much at Eurovision, however in recent years we’ve seen that rock can do very well!! Just look at Måneskin… What does the song mean to you and what is the message you want to share with the audiences when you perform it?

Our latest track is all about staying sharp and not letting anyone pull one over on you. It hits close to home for all of us. And yeah, we’re rocking it out because that’s what feels right. It’s in our blood.

D: How are the rehearsals going for you currently? Are you all ready for the big stage next week? Can you tease anything about your upcoming performance?

Practice has been full-on. We’re gearing up for the big stage, working out the kinks, and throwing in some surprises for the show. We’ve got the live gig part down, but working with the cameras is a whole new ball game.

D: Tell us about the best gig that you have ever played – where was it, what made it great?

Thinking about our past gigs, opening for Umberto Tozzi was insane, so many people, so much energy. But playing at Fête de la Musique Dudelange was another level. The crowd was right there with us, singing along, and when they asked for an encore we didn’t even plan for, that was just epic.

D: Do you have any other music projects or personal projects coming up? Let us know what is next for you after the Luxembourg Song Contest.

As for what’s coming up, we’re knee-deep in our album, balancing it with the craziness of Eurovision. It wasn’t on our radar, but here we are, and we’re loving it!

D: Thank you so much for taking the time to answer the questions above. Finally, do you have a message for our readers and your fans?

We’re all about hitting the stage, sharing our tunes, and just vibing with everyone. In the end, it’s all about the music, right? That’s what we’re here for.
